This is for our children...their children...and their children. This is for our family...this is for us!
Originally, this blog was my wife's, but I stole it since she stopped using it. So, now it will be a place for both of us to write and journal our experiences during this journey of getting healthy. For the both of us its more than just losing weight. Yes, we both want to be thin, but more importantly we want to be around for eachother and our children for a long, long time. We want t show our children that it just isn't okay to treat what He gave us so poorly...
We have stopped making excuses and are ready to face the challenge...are you?

We're Still Here! + Awesome-ness

These last 4 days have been extremely busy. So busy I can't even remember when I posted last (I actually had to look to see). I thought about it every day, but it just didn't happen. So, lets start from the top. Saturday: I had 7 miles scheduled in the AM, then Jessica was off to rehearsal for the wedding and getting her nails done.  My 7 miles went excellent. I mapped out a run from my in-laws house, ran 7.09 miles in 59 minutes.  I think I might even drive over there again to do that run again. That puts my pace right around 8:30 per mile- the fastest I have ever run for a long distance. Jessica headed out for her day and I spend the day with our kiddos. Jessica's grandpa took us out to IHOP for brunch. To be honest, I was nervous that my kids were going to be their normal selves- 2 year olds who didn't want to listen or eat or listen or eat and then my 11 year old- well I wasn't too worried about her. It went pretty well- the kids shared some pancakes, Devanne ate the Jr Slam thing and I had the whole wheat french toast, with egg substitute and turkey bacon. It was delicious! After that I took the kids home- the little ones took a nap while I prepped meals for the week.

I made tilopia, chicken, brown rice and sweet potate's with broccoli and cooked spinach.  I was gearing up for following Kris Grethin's training program (found it on bodybuilding.com). (More to come about that). Anyhow, Saturday night was the rehearsal dinner at McMinnimins. I ate a burger (only half of the bun) and a side salad. Then it was home to prepare for Sunday.  While out at dinner, we got a call and family needed to crash at our house. So, we had 3 adults and 2 children crash at our house. Total of 6 adults and 6 kids.
Sunday came- Jessica headed out at 10 am, my job was to take care of the kiddos and get them to the wedding spot before 3. We did make it there on time and only had a minor emergency. Devanne's dress didn't fit her- we forgot to have her try it on- I ran to the nearest store and found a little shrug thing- it covered up the back part where the buttons wouldn't button.  Phew- disaster avoided.  Had we not found that the only dress she had with her was a black one, not really wedding colors!
Wedding was a blast and we made it home by about 10:45pm. We planned a family BBQ on Monday. The bride and groom didn't have a honeymoon planned, so it was perfect to have folks over.
Monday came around and I headed out to the gym for my 1 st day of training. I am only semi- following it. I can't quite afford to eat how they say (fish x2 a day, chicken 1x, lean red meat 1x).  When I bought enough to do 1 fish and 1 chicken per day it was about 35 (with a few other things).  I am going to try to also eat one salad a day and of course at least 1 protein shake per day (with almond milk). Plus, I am still going to get my running in. The plan only calls for 20 minutes of cardio before strength and 20 minutes after. I ran 5 miles and then did my legs. I, literally, could barely walk out of there!  I came home and quickly tried to clean up our backyard. Every one arrived and the party got going. I drank beer. 3 beers actually and they were amazing! Man I miss beer! Most everyone headed home except the grandparents and we enjoyed their company for as long as possible, since they were leaving in the morning.
And now, finally to today. Tuesday. I did 30 minutes of stairstepper, then chest and triceps and 20 more minutes of the stairstepper...Completely killed myself. But it felt good. Dinner was ziti and snack was a protein shake. I was sooo hungry at dinner that I ate the ziti and then a left over turkey burger, so at dinner I ate about 600 calories.  Jessica took my measurements and since I started this journey I have lost 24 inches and, and I am now 181.6! Which means I have officially lost 50 pounds in about 6 months.  (I might gain a pound after my eating tonight).  I'm not sure if it is realistic for me to loose 25 more pounds while strength training- but thats my goal.
Tomorrow is Week 1, Day 3- which is technically a rest day. But I will be running my 5 miles.
