This is for our children...their children...and their children. This is for our family...this is for us!
Originally, this blog was my wife's, but I stole it since she stopped using it. So, now it will be a place for both of us to write and journal our experiences during this journey of getting healthy. For the both of us its more than just losing weight. Yes, we both want to be thin, but more importantly we want to be around for eachother and our children for a long, long time. We want t show our children that it just isn't okay to treat what He gave us so poorly...
We have stopped making excuses and are ready to face the challenge...are you?

Day 2 done, Day 3 almost finished

Yesterday was day 2 of the cabbage soup and it was a bad day! Or rather I was in a terrible mood. I was hungry all day and the veggies just weren't doing it for me. I woke up early and packed baggies of red peppers, spinach, carrots, cherry tomatoes,  and celery. I didn't read that I could have had 3 tablespoons of non-fat dressing until the night time. By then (night) I was in a terrible mood and I just wanted my damn baked potato.  I also had zero energy. But that baked potato was so good. It was glorious. I knew by my reaction to the potato that I was in trouble. I didn't even want protein, I wanted fruit. And then I gave in and ate fruit last.  It was entirely worth it.  The Mrs. cut me some slack with my attitude which was nice. She did threaten to shove food down my throat if I didn't eat something else.
The gym was tough yesterday due to lack of energy. Luckily it was a cross training day (I would have died running). I did about 20 minutes of free weights for my upper body and then hit the stair stepper for 45 minutes and a step rate of 90. I climbed nearly 4 miles. My watch told me I burned 568 calories based on my age and heart rate. Normally I try for 700-1000 but I was spent. I was happy I made it that far.
Today when I woke up, I went in and got the girls up and we did the beginning of the day routine. I ate fruit this morning and felt okay. Had a cup of green tea...and then suddenly I felt sick. I felt shaky and terrible. It was (turkey) bacon time. It just was. I needed protein. So, I ate 3 pieces of turkey bacon and felt sooo much better. The Mrs. was convinced that this meant she was right (the diet was stupid).  She threatened again to shove food down my throat if I didn't eat dinner tonight. "I'm making you a dinner plate! You better eat it!"  Anyhow, I stuck with it for the rest of the day until right before I went to the gym because today was intervals. We bought these protein shakes from Costco, they have 30g of protein and 160 calories. Very little sugar.  They taste excellent! So, this is what I had just before the workout. And it really made a difference.
I hit the start button, warmed up and then started...I pushed myself and was able to do 3 minutes on 2% incline at 8:49 min/mile pace and then do 2 minutes at a 15 min/mile pace; Previously I could only do 2 minutes on and would always be looking down for those two minutes to be finished.  I was very proud of myself today as I passed 2 minutes and even went over 3 minutes a few times because I didn't need to stop running. Good stuff.
After the gym it was time to head home for dinner and night time routine with the kids. Jessica made me a pork chop but didn't shove it down my throat. I ate cabbage soup (not the pork chop) and had fruit. It was delicious!
Tomorrow is cross training, cabbage soup, bananas and (almond) milk. I've been looking forward to this day. Bananas sound so good as does a cup of almond milk.  Yum.
