This is for our children...their children...and their children. This is for our family...this is for us!
Originally, this blog was my wife's, but I stole it since she stopped using it. So, now it will be a place for both of us to write and journal our experiences during this journey of getting healthy. For the both of us its more than just losing weight. Yes, we both want to be thin, but more importantly we want to be around for eachother and our children for a long, long time. We want t show our children that it just isn't okay to treat what He gave us so poorly...
We have stopped making excuses and are ready to face the challenge...are you?

The Pavement

This morning I decided to forgo the treadmill and hit the pavement...for my 6 mile run. I was a little nervious since I haven't ran outside since the St. Patrick's Day 5K.  But, I have decided I really need to get off the treadmill. I'm doing all this running and not seeing a darn thing- what good is that?
I got myself dressed and mapped out a 6 mile run which started and ended at my mom's house. I was amazed to see distance for what seems to be very far, is actually not very far. I sent the route to my phone but tried to memorize it just incase my phoned died.  My mom convinced me to take a water bottle ('em bad idea, I discovered) and I headed out.
I kept telling myself not to look at my app to see what my pace was but I felt like I was going fast and that was good enough for me. I had Pandora blaring and barely thought about stopping. Since I already had an idea of where I was going I just kept telling myself the next "landmark" to keep myself on track. I made it a little over half way before my phone battery died. But what I did notice was the color and the amazing smell. Spring is an amazing time to run outside. Anyhow, I went past my childhood home and to made a pit stop at my sister's grave site. She would have been 22 on April 25th. I cleaned her headstone off and put some flowers down, I had an overwhelming feeling that she was with me, she has been watching over me, that she was helping me on this journey.  It was an amazing terrible feeling all at once but it was worth it.
Anyhow, I set out for the rest of run (which wasn't much). I was on track for a very good time. Except then I couldn't remember if I was suppose to keep going forward or if I was turning left. Hum. I turned left. Eventually I got to the same place, but I did lose out on about 0.4 miles. When I hit the door step I was at 50 minutes. 50 minutes for 5.5 miles isn't too bad at all!
I cooled down, showered and got the twins ready for the day.  At the party I went a little overboard- I ate two ribs and 2 cake pops plus a BUNCH of fruit. Dinner was a bit lighter-pumkin seed custed tilopia. Our daughter, Adey, ate several bites of asparagus for the first time EVER. She willingly bit off peices and ate them.  On a side note, Adey has had several issues with texture and food stuff, so this is a BIG deal!
After the girls went down for the night, Jessica, Devanne and I headed to my mom's apartment gym. Since I had already done cardio I was focused on weight training. They don't have free weights but I utilized their machine to the best of my ability and was able to work out my upper and lower body.  Jessica did her 20 minutes of couch to 5k program and some eliptical but was pretty sure she "wasn't feeling it."  I am proud of her, even though she didn't want to do it- she did it! Way to go babe!
Tomorrow, is an early celebration of mother's day for my mom and grandma. We are making them brunch. (Egg nests, lean turkey ham and fruit). And it's a day off from working out.
