This is for our children...their children...and their children. This is for our family...this is for us!
Originally, this blog was my wife's, but I stole it since she stopped using it. So, now it will be a place for both of us to write and journal our experiences during this journey of getting healthy. For the both of us its more than just losing weight. Yes, we both want to be thin, but more importantly we want to be around for eachother and our children for a long, long time. We want t show our children that it just isn't okay to treat what He gave us so poorly...
We have stopped making excuses and are ready to face the challenge...are you?

Oh Yeah! or Not...
Yesterday I was a little desperate for sweets and I usually justify it with buying a protein bar (this I recently discovered). The Oh Yeah! bar was on sale at Albertsons so I went for it. I was slightly disappointed. It was gritty and had an odd taste to it. But it did make me think about how I am wasting precious calories on sugar and I have been justifying it with protein bars. Even though this was made with very little sugars it has a lot of sugar alcohol which, I guess, kind of defeats the purpose. From what I have been reading, getting protein powder and doing a shake 1-2x a day is a much better value.
And lately we have been needing to watch our costs. It is EXPENSIVE to eat right. We go through fruits and veggies like no one's business, lean meat is more expensive, as is real juice (for the kids), nuts, brown rice, whole wheat options...you get the picture. We also have Jessica's sister, Kim and her son, Rome, living with us so we have had to buy two of most things to make them last. For example, I really wanted to switch the whole family to Almond milk, but with all these people we would be spending at least $20 a week on Almond milk. We budget about $150 for a family of 7- 3 adults and 4 kids. I have 1 Think Thin bar left and then that is it. We just don't have the money to be spending $4 a day on protein stuff (Shake and bars for Jessica and I). So, we are going to switch to making our own from the powder.
That being said I have been doing research on the best kind of protein powder. Course their is the protein powder I want and then their is the protein that is good and that I can afford. I think I am going to go with the Protein powder from Costco. 6 lbs for $30. It isn't the best, but it's good.
Today I hit the gym and completed 45 minutes of intervals- 2 minutes at a 4.0, 4 minutes at a 7.6. I was so proud! I could actually do the entire 2 minutes without feeling like I was going to die at the end of it. The last few 2 minutes on were at an 8.0 just to see if I could. I could. It was great. Then it was over the weights- today was hamstrings and calves + I added in 10 hanging pull ups. I did seated leg curls, pile squat, standing dumbbell calf raise and calf bench press machine. My legs feel like jelly. I'm glad tomorrow is cross training and upper body.
I'm excited because Jessica and I are planning a very early morning trip around Hagg Lake on Saturday (before getting to Devanne's game and Adey fitted for glasses).
On a different note- Jessica is a rock star today. Yep, it's true. I married a rock star! She ran an entire mile today without stopping. I knew she could do it!
